We record our volunteer hours on Give Pulse for a couple of reasons. The first is to register the impact of the WSU Master Gardener Program. We receive funding from national, state, and county resources, and we have to show that we are providing a necessary service-research—based gardening information—to our community. The other reason is that WSU considers us “unpaid employees,” and as such we must be covered by Workers Compensation insurance. Recording your hours on a monthly basis gives WSU a record of your “employment.”

As Master Gardeners, we are NOT licensed pest management consultants. When giving pest management advice to clients, we must adhere to the following policies as stated by WSU. Pest management recommendations must be limited to home, lawn, and garden problems. If we do not adhere to these guidelines, we are not covered by WSU’s liability insurance.

These are the most asked-for handouts that we print for folks who want local gardening information. Please feel free to print them and give them to friends or if you are speaking for a group.
